Business Class
Business Class is a higher quality seating and/or sleeping section for trains and planes. There are many variables that make up business class upgrades to include size of seating, amount of space relegated to the passenger, type of seating, type of food, service of food, frequency of food service, drink service, and boarding time.As international travel has become more and more common airlines have decided to cater to businessmen, specifically on long haul, or international flights. Most companies want their employees to arrive ready to work when they reach their destination. Business class amenities are designed to help facilitate this desire.
Airplanes do not naturally come with business class, first class, and economy class seating arrangements and online games. When airlines buy new airplanes from airplane manufacturers they designated seating arrangements based on the number and types of seats they believe they can sell to maximize profits. The number of business class seats is determined by the airlines themselves.
Most domestic flights no longer offer business class, instead opting for only first class and economy class. Some routes that are longer, for example from New York to Los Angeles, offer business class seating. Almost all international carriers and long distance international flights offer a business class section of the cabin and have started competing with one another on the amenities that they provide. As airlines have become more competitive they strive to find ways to cater to the business class market and increase customer loyalty. Many business class travelers are provided with greater amenities and deals for frequent fliers.
Companies began providing business classes immediately following the introduction of train and air flight. Separating passengers based on the amount they are willing to pay has been an integral part of travel in the United States since travel became an integral part of the American way of life. But the first true Business Class seats for airlines were provided by British Caledonia Airlines in 1978.
Business class upgrades are provided for an increase fare or on an as needed basis. There are some “tricks” that can be used to try and receive a free upgrade, but to secure a seat in business class, purchase a business class ticket when making plans.
